Motherhood: An Eternal Partnership With God

I LOVE this talk by Elder Holland. I don't know when it was given or where (I am working on fining it out) but I had to post it, mostly so I could watch it whenever I need to. =>

Reading

I love to read! I truly think books are one of the greatest forms of entertainment. The thing is, I do not read often. I do not read "ok" books. You can call me a book snob. If I am not in love with, immediately sucked into, and entranced by a book the first time I pick it up, I can gaurentee I will never pick it up again to finish it. But if I come upon a book that does tickle my fancy I become engulfed. That book consumes my life, and I do nothing else but read that book. And when I am not reading the book (because there are things in life you HAVE to do that you can not read while doing) all I can think about is the book. That being the case, I finish books in a matter of hours, and if a really long book, days. I can honestly say I have never read a book over a week. I will even sacrifice sleep to finish the book. And with that snobbiness, it is a rarety for me to read (BIG book snob here).

In my relationship with Jared (Jan 2008-Aug2010, over 2 1/2 years) I have only read 3 (technically 6) books: The Twilight series (finished all four in 3 1/2 days, Jared and I were engaged), Babywise (finished less than a day, two weeks after Paige was born. A book about baby sleep patterns, not really for entertainment), and Austenland (finished matter of hours, mostly because I promised my sister I would read it but then ended up being REALLY entertained by it). Thats all. You would think being the book/reading lover I am I would have read more. Nope. Nothing caught my interest enough to read/finish.

With that little background information on me let me bring you in on my thoughts today. I started thinking about the scriptures in reference to my state of mind about reading. I read my scriptures, but honestly (confession time!) its more of a "I'm reading because I'm supposed to" instead of a "I really can't wait to pick up my scriptures and read them some more!!" Yes, now it is known how unrighteous and medeocre I am. haha. But I got the desire today to change my attitude about scriptures. Why can't they consume my life as much as a good book does? They are the best book in the world afterall. When I read a good book, everything comes secondary to that book, and I try to think of every possible moment I can read it. Reading my scriptures I do for the minimal amount of time I deam necessary, and most of the time they are not the top priority and therefore get pushed to the last minute. Bad I know.

My new goal is to make scriptures a more desired and overtaking part of my life (but in a good, normal way). I wil not go to the extreeme I tend to go when reading a book, I will just try to go partway there, and try and engulf myself more in them. Afterall, I was thinking about when I read Austenland (last week) and realized how much of my day to day activities I did without and replaced with reading that little book. That was not a big book, or even a tough read, not even taking up the entire day. I could totally rework my activities to fit more scripture time in. =>

My new goal, (and the point of this post was to get this goal out 'there' so I am somewhat more accountable for it), is to finish the Book of Mormon by my birthday (the end of the month). I am going to start from where I already am (just starting Jacob) and finsih the entire book. I know I can (I read the last Harry Potter in 1.5 days for goodness sake). So here it goes: sifting my life so that some activities fall out, some get toned down, and to replace that time with better more engulfing scripture reading! =>

I told Jared my new outlook/goal and he was the one that came up with the end of August deadline. He also thought it would be fun if I challenged those who read my blog to try and do the same. Finsih the Book of Mormon by the end of August, or another time they think a good challenge for them. I think thats a fun idea! So I CHALLENGE each and every one of you: Take a look at your life and see what can be "rearranged" to fit more scripture reading in. And see if you can finish the Book of Mormon by the end of August, or whenever your desired goal is, but make it a bit challenging. (Yes, even you non-members => Love you guys!) I think it would be a fun and wonderful challenge to put yourself thru! (hey, I'm doing it!) And the best thing about the scriptures, when you finish, turn it over and start again! => Reading never hurt anyone! haha =>

I would love to hear if you are doing it and what your goal is! And I will let you know of my progress! => If not for you, for me, to give me some more motivation to do it. Now, get to reading! => haha

Sunbeams!

Last Sunday Jared and I substituted one of the sunbeam classes (our ward has 5). We got a class with four 3yr old boys.

The lesson was on the creation. So how to teach three year olds about what God created..... Jared's iPad to the rescue! He was so excited to use it! We Googled all sorts of animals, insects, and stuff having to do with earth (sun,etc) and made a slideshow-ish thing out of them. The game was to have the kids say what the picture was of (ex:lion, ant, hippo, etc) and sometimes even make the sound of the animal. Then we would ask "Who made the __(insert animal)__?" and they would answer (super excitedly) "Heavenly Father and Jesus!"
It seriously was one of the cutest things I have ever seen! I couldn't stop smiling the whole time they were playing the game! And in the middle of the game one of the little boys decided he was brave enough to touch the screen to change the picture (you just run your finger along the screen and the next picture appears. Again, the iPad is frickin sweet!) That brought a whole new level of excitement to this game! And Jared was cute and let each boy take turns changing the picture on the computer.

I don't know how much these little guys got out of our lesson, but it was fun to attempt to teach them! And I love seeing Jared play with kids! He is AMAZING with kids, and that makes me excited to have one of our own and get to see Jared play with her all the time! =>

Boys Session

My family has a tradition of taking each kid to Salt Lake to watch their conference session when they turn 12. (girls go to the YW session there and boys go to the Priesthood) In Febuary Kaden turned 12! Holy cow he is getting so old! But that meant that he, my Dad and Trey came up for the April conference!! They were going to stay at the condo in Park City, but Jared and I (and probably mostly my Mom) were able to talk them into staying with us => It was so much fun! I LOVE playing with my family!! I miss not being so close to them!Here are the boys off to big old Salt Lake for their Priesthood session! I love that they were all able to go! And I think the height stair step is funny (Jared = 6'6, Dad = 6'4, Trey = 6'1.5, then Kaden...... still int he 5 foot range) => They enjoyed conference very much, and Kaden loved that he was big enough to go! While they were at their 'boy' session I went over to play with my aunts at Nikkis house! I had a blast! We just love family!!

The True Meaning Of Christmas!

Its Christmas time, its Christmas time!!! I LOVE this time of the year! And although I have been slacking in the decorating department (only two decorations up and no tree yet) I still try to get into the Christmas spirit! I have made Christmas treats (fudge), listened to Christmas music, etc. My uncle emailed the family a copy of a talk my Grandpa Pommerville gave last Christmas, the subject was "The True Meaning of Christmas". I thought this would be a good way to bring good Christmas spirit to my blog, and to let others enjoy the great insite my Grandpa had on this subject! It is a little lengthy, but its worth the five minutes to read. Enjoy!


The True Meaning of Christmas

Every time we hear that a speaker’s topic is “The True Meaning of Christmas”, we know that the talk will begin by stating that Christmas isn’t really about Santa Claus, or presents, or parties, or Christmas bonuses, or big dinners – wait, we might have to make an exception for big dinners. But you will hear that Christmas is about the babe born in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago, and in one sense, it is. But in fact, it is really about something more – something so immense in scope that it is always difficult for us to fully comprehend it.

All of our Heavenly Father’s planning and preparation, all of his interest in his children and all of his desires for them, all of his aims and goals for the entire universe, came down to a singular moment in a specific time and place on this earth in a garden called Gethsemane, and at a place called Golgotha, and in a Garden Tomb; all of which are located outside of the walls of the city of Jerusalem in the Kingdom of Judah. Without these three places and what happened in them in God’s eternal plan, everything else would have been a colossal waste – everything. Without the events involving one particular Man in that olive vineyard over two thousand years ago, God’s purposes would have been utterly frustrated. Sin, death, decay, destruction, hell, and endless torment would reign supreme forever and ever. If Gethsemane and Golgotha had turned out to be places associated with suffering and failure rather than suffering and triumph, everything that went before and everything that came afterward would have been reduced to a series of meaningless events in the eternal scheme of things, for there would have been no eternal life. Deterioration, disorder, and chaos would ultimately fill the vastness of the universe; all beauty, human kindness, refinement, and acts of goodness would be forgotten as wasted energy. Truly, Gethsemane was the place where eternity hung in the balance.

Scientists tell us that the natural order of things in our universe is an irrevocable, steady movement toward decay: from life to death, from organization to chaos, from a condition or state of lesser degeneration to one of greater degeneration (a concept called entropy). This state of being is true for all kingdoms and creations – animals, plants, stars, and other systems. Without Christ’s atonement, human beings and the worlds on which they reside would be locked forever in the vise grip of death and dissolution. But with and through Christ’s atonement, all things are made new. The process of decay is not only halted but reversed. Because of the Atonement, which includes the events in Gethsemane as well as those at Golgotha and in the Garden Tomb, all things in the universe are empowered, renewed, and revitalized. Thus, Christ is the light and the life of the world.

Alma fully understood and taught exactly what the atonement means. (Read Alma 7:10-13)
“10. And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.

“11. And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.

“12. And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.

“13. Now the spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance; and now behold this is the testimony which is in me.”

It seems that suffering for our sins was only part of the great atoning sacrifice of the Savior in the Garden and at Golgotha – He also suffered for our pains, our sicknesses and our infirmities; and He suffered to save us all from death and from meaninglessness. We will all live forever because of Him. He also suffered to provide a way for those of His children who would be obedient and humbly accept His gospel and endure to the end to be exalted and to live forever in the presence of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.

Please pay attention to a statement by C.S. Lewis concerning the Savior’s temptation and atoning experience:

“No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good. A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is; after all, you find out the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not be giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down. A man who gives into temptation after five minutes simply does not know what it would have been like an hour later.

“That is why bad people in one sense know very little about badness. They’ve always lived a sheltered life by always giving in. We never find out the strength of the evil impulse inside us until we try to fight it: and Christ, because he was the only man who never yielded to temptation, is also the only man who knows to the full what temptation means – the only complete realist.”

Yes, Christmas is about the child lying in the manger in Bethlehem, but only because that child symbolizes what it was he was sent to this earth to do. The great and infinite atoning sacrifice of the Savior Jesus Christ – the eternity shaping events in Gethsemane, at Golgotha and at the Garden Tomb – made life for all of us meaningful and significant. Thus, Christmas is about us, about you, about me, it is about the man and the woman that we now are, and it is about the man and the woman that we may become. It matters that we learn to forgive others, that we perform many acts of goodness and kindness, that we learn to love everyone, that we build families into eternal units of exaltation and glory, that we learn, finally, to give all that we have and are and all that we ever will have or be to our Father in Heaven and to trust Him in everything. I testify that Jesus, the babe of Bethlehem, is the maker and finisher of our salvation, our Savior, the great Jehovah, God of Heaven and Earth, our friend and advocate with the Father. I know Him – I trust Him – and I love Him.

That we might learn to become the very best we can be, that we might learn to become more like the Savior each and every day of our lives, that is what Christmas is really about, and it is my prayer that we might so live and so learn, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

My Little Miracles

Lately I have not done much of picture worthy things, which I guess is why my last couple entries have been photo-less. This post will be the same. But don't worry, there are a few planned things coming to take a picture of (like my stomach and a new In-N-Out opening, and Nicklecade date) so there will be pictures soon. As for right now my mind is so filled with recent little miracles in my life I just had to write them down.

The first major one is Jared! I know, he has been in my life for almost two years now, but I just can not believe how lucky I am to have a man like him! Seriously I do not know how I could do some things without him (like getting up and ready for work today, just one example) He helps and supports me in everything I do, and even the ideas of things I want to do but never get around to. And especially lately, when my body just doesn't want to work anymore, he jumps right in and goes above and beyond his 'call of duty' => I can not even think of the right words to say to acurately express my feelings of love, appreciation, respect, admiration, (the list could go on and on) I have for him! He is probably the biggest miracle that has happened to me in my life!

The second miracle recently happened last Sunday. I honestly don't know what came over me (probably too much time to think at work) but I invited three of my high school friends and their husbands to a dinner party last Sunday. Yes, me, willingly cooking a large meal for seven adults! Really what was I thinking? I was so nervous about it, but the gathering turned out fine. And my little miracle that day was the food. I had never cooked for seven adults before so I made two dinners, roast and chilie, and a side of homemade rolls. I can not even tell you how scared I was for that food. I am definately NOT a great cook, I am actually just beginning to learn how to cook, and good food turns out about half the time. I sometimes wonder what Heavenly Father thinks when I pray to Him. Especially while I was making that dinner. I do not think I have said so many prayers about food in my entire life! Jared even asked me to say the prayer on the food when they were all here, and I don't know if any of the guests caught it but I definately prayed for it to taste good. => And there were no complaints! And even some compliments! I tell you, even tho that does not seem like a big thing, or may even seem weird to some, but it was a big deal to me to have decent tasting food. I didn't need it to be the best meal they ever had, just enough to satisfy them for one meal. And I can say that this experience was a testimony builder for me, that no matter how small the matter, or insignificant the fear or worry may be, Heavenly Father knows that its important to you, therefore it is important to Him. And I am so thankful that He helped the dinner I made not turn out horrible. (and I probably wont be cooking dinner for a party for a while, I still havent gotten over the stress of food =>)

And the third miracle happened/is happening at my job. My job gets paid of piece rate (however many bundles of clothes you sell is what you get paid). And I had officially entered the training curve last week (they give me 18 weeks to get to 100% efficiency) I had been steadily progressing at a rapid rate, which I was comfortable with, and on the first week I was doing really well. But then I had a bad day. Not just in how fast I was sewing but how bad my body hurt, cutting my finger opened, huge headache. Basically you name it, I had it. That day just really shot my enthusiasm down. Then I had a weekend, expecting to get refreshed and back to the normal pace I was working at, but coming back to work Monday, I still preformed less than I would have liked. This really got me down and again I turned to my Heavenly Father. He really loves me. I can not explain it any other way. He knows the goals I have for myself and He has helped me exceed them more than I could have ever imagined! Again it is a small and insignificant miracle to anyone but myself, but in my life, it is a huge miracle!

And the last one I will talk about today has to deal with my job again. My job provides insurance. This was a big blessing when it comes to our baby. When we first found out we were pregnant there was no way we could have afforded this baby, and that scared us a little. But we figured we could just make extra money on the side and try to negotiate with he doctors and hospitals. And for the first two visits that is what we did, and as far as we knew it was working well. But there was always the lingering fear of 'what if' like 'what if the baby is premature' or 'what if I need a C-section'. Those were expenses we could not have handled. But luckily with this job, I get a good insurance plan that will help cover a lot of the costs. And a new miracle that comes with this insurance deals with Jared. He was set to have his jaw surgery on November 30 up in Idaho. His parents had kept him on their insurance plan for this specific reason. But something happened (I am still not entirely knowledgeable about the details) and the insurance company was changing and decided not to cover Jared's surgery. Well, they cant just not do surgery. The doctors have spent practically the last two years prepping his mouth for this corrective procedure, and if they just leave it how it is, his jaw will be more messed up than before they started. But again Heavenly Father, I am sure, knew this and He provided a way for Jared to get the procedure done. The insurance I get thru my work covers it, then same if not better than the insurance before. This is one big complication that we never would have thought of, and yet Heavenly Father had prepared us for it.

These recent miracles in my life have me so emotional (and yes, a big part of that is probably pregnancy) about our Father in Heavens love for us! I have not doubted that He loves me, it just astounds me when I look back and see part of the extent of His love for me and my family! I am eternally grateful for everything He does for us and how He watches over us! And I hope I can provide at least a portion of that love for this baby coming to us. I know that my Heavenly Father loves me, and that gives me the greatest peace and reassurance I have ever known!

Jed and Marcee's Wedding!

On Thurseday Jared and I had the opportunity to attend his friend Jed's wedding. He married his sweetheart in the Twin Falls temple in Idaho. We were able to go to their sealing which was such a treat!

The 'old' married couples waiting for the new ones. => It is always fun to play with Jared's friends, but especially today because Brett, Tom and Jared all worked and built the Twin Falls temple!

At the wedding reception. THey had a cool theme, my best guess at a title of it is 'Idaho Wedding" They had very tasteful bits of rustic beauty thrown here and there, very pretty!
And of course, the boys had to decorate the truck. I was actually really excited for this part this time! And it was so much fun, but we did tone it down from Bretts wedding (Jared did not feel the need to get revenge => )

This is the gist of the finished product! A lot more color this time, which I really like. And we did have other family members to help too, which is always fun to teach the youngins in the art of wedding car decorating. =>

Two of the masterminds behind the ordeal (Tom's girlfriend came and they left a little before the truck was done).

A real cute idea for 'thanks yous'. They had the candies on the table and a bag to fill with it. The wedding was very fun and we loved playing with Jared's friends again!

Brett and Raini's Wedding!

Jared and I went up to daho this past weekend for two big events. One of them was his best friend Brett's wedding! He married a girl, Raini, that he had met up at BYU-I, and its fun because we knew her before their dating career took off! They got married on Friday July 31 in the Idaho Falls temple! It is my first wedding that I went to, and it made me realize how much of my cereomny I don't remember. What a bummer! But it was such a privilage to be able to be there for that!

The gang, all together again! I thought it was pretty funny when Brett walked out and he was wearing blue, and all at once the boys were like "What!?!?! You get blue and we are stuck with pink" Oh that was so funny! But they all look so sharp!
The bride and groom were taking pictures around temple grounds with their families, but they wanted the boys to stick around for pictures later, so of course we took some of our own! =>
The flowers were just absolutely beautiful! And look, another picture of me and Jared!! Woot woot. Its not just going to be two pictures to represent a whole year! =>
This is one of the cutest wedding pictures of the day, in my opinion! It speaks so much about their personalities!! =>
Our table at the lunch-in! They held it at the Shilo Inn just across the river from the temple! It was delicious food and very yummy!
And then, of course, was early to the reception where upon thousands and thousands of pictures were taken! I forgot what a tiring day wedding days are! And I am so grateful I don't have to do that again!! =>
After loads of pictures were taken and guests started arriving, we went out to destroy, I mean decorate Brett's truck! Jared has been anxiously awaiting payback for almost a year! This is the truck before. Can you tell Jared is excited for what he is about to do? =>
He was entirely too excited for this! It was the best part of his day, which is why most of the rest of this post is devoted to his masterpiece! hahaha
People in action... it started out just the five of us, and we started so early because Jed and Marcy still had to make a couple hour drive back to Jerome and get to sleep early because they were working early in the morning. But as we got going, some of Bretts young cousins saw what we were doing, so they joined in the fun. Yes, we were inialating this truck!!
Some of the decorating team!! THey were so proud of it!! I wrote on the windows some things, while most of them wrapped the car. Then I even wrote random things in layers around the syran wrap, so the car would look slightly more colorful! =>
One of Brett's many nicknames is Croc, don't ask why, I don't truely know, it must be a guy thing. But one of Jared's shining moments is when he drew something that actually resembled a crocodile! Good job Handsome!!
And of course, there had to be some iffy sayings, but not too iffy. => So we only did part of some. hahaha
And a prominent "Just Married" is a must. I was appointed on writing duty since I have "cheerleader" handwriting. I find that pretty funny because I don't have the girliest writing, but compared to all these boys, I guess I do =>

It looks like a spider threw up on it! No, like millions of spiders threw up on it!!
I dare you to try and guess how much syran wrap is on that truck, go on, take a guess.........
2400 SQUARE FEET OF SYRAN WRAP!!!!!!! Thats right!! Like the size of a small house!!! This thing was COVERED!!!! And it was the boy's pride and joy! They were soooo pleased with themselves!! => And this took them close to 2 hours to do!!
And when we went inside we had enough timee to eat some food, go thru the line, and then they cut the cake! We couldn't have planned better timing!! But her cake was gorgeous!!
They were so cute in cutting the cake! And they were nice and didn't shove things in eachothers faces, which I think is very nice.
And now for the best part... hahaha although Brett did cheat and he snuck a knife so he just cut through it, but it still too him a good 15-20 minutes to get it all cleaned off!!
And once Brett got his side clear enough to open the door, he went over to help Raini, who was trying to tear thru it by hand! She was such a trooper! And she did get impressively far without Bretts knife! =>
Oh it was so fun to watch them take it all off!! So worth all the time and effort!! And Jared is fully satisfied that he got his revenge! And the funny thing is, this car is leagues more covered than ours was!
This is a picture of our car, almsot a year ago. Holy cow, I can't believe it has been almost a year!!! There was writing on the windows, which took forever to come off, and they were able to get in our car, so confetti was ALL over, but I still think the truck beats this 10,000 to 1! If this trend continues, I pitty the next friend that gets married! I can only imagine how bad his car is going to be! =>

Day at the Temple with the Wives

So I feel like every other thing I write is about the temple, which isnt a bad thing, it just a little out of the ordinary. => Well this morning two of the wives and myself went to a session at the Denver CO temple. And as usual I LOVED it, but today was different! After our session we had the opportunity for the three of us to sit down with a member of the temple presidency and ask him any questions we wanted! What a treat!! He is such a sweet and loving man, and he was so helpful with his answers! That was one of the neatest experinces I have had in the temple! I am so grateful I was able to participate in something like that! And of course, after we too pictures around the grounds! => I must say, I am getting pretty good at taking pictures of temples, ok, at least I think so. => And amazingly, not one it the same pose of setting as before. I wonder how long we can keep that up =>

What a beautiful day to go to the temple! Denver weather is so funny, it will be gorgeous like this until about 4:30, then it will rain and thunder and hail like you would never believe!

I Love to See the Temple...

...I went inside today. I convenanted with my Father, I promised to obey! For the temple is the House of God, a place of Love and Beauty. I prepared myself wen I was young, this is my sacred privilage! =>

I have been humming that song all morning, with a few changed words, and rightfully so. I went to the morning session at the temple today!! I LOVE when I go to the temple! I do not go often enough, but it is such a treat each time I go! This morning my friend Janae and I went to the 8 o'clock session, meaning we had to get up at 6 and leave my 6:45 or 7! Wow what an early day (yes I think that is early) but so worth it!! I am so grateful there is a temple close to us! And there has been one close every place we have lived!

I love the temple!! I was like a kid in a candy store, I was so excited that we made it on time! => (traffic wasn't horrible but it deffinately was not good)
After we got out it was picture time! => We tried to take a picture of ourselves in front of the temple, but this is how it turned out, not as good as we would have hoped.
So then we wised up. There were construction workers working on the grounds, so we asked one of them to take a picture of us, and it turned our marvelous! =>
One of my favorite things about temples is their grounds! They are always so beautiful and have the prettiest flowers and shrubbery!! This picture reminds me of the wizard of Oz when they fall asleep in the flowers. =>
Janae found a stubbylight pole that we could jump up and sit on and then have a cool angle for a picture! I like it! And look at that gorgeous sky by the temple! Beautiful!!
These trees were so fun and pretty! Oh goodness, I don't know what can compare with the temple and its grounds!
Then there was this patch that had like a gazillion daisies! Ok maybe not that much, but a lot! And it was so pretty!!!
I love daisies too, they are such a happy flower! Today was so much fun and so wonderful! I still have not gone to the temple with JAred while living here, but he went one time with some of his sales team, so at least he went! That is the next goal, to go with him at least once whie we live in Denver!
